SEN Teaching Assistant job vacancy in Birmingham, Temporary position

I am looking to appoint a learning support person who can support a non-verbal child with Autism within a collaborative and forward thinking school. You will be working closely with the child, parents, Senco and leadership team. Experience in this area and the ability to communicate confidently and clearly, whilst having the child's best interests at heart is crucial.

The child you would be supporting is currently in Year 2 and working at early year's level.

There are no toileting needs.

Can be quite boisterous and physical in terms of running off, trying to climb on tables and has been known to bite on occasion.

Previous experience of working with a child of this calibre is ESSENTIAL.

I would like somebody with Autism training and experience, who is of positive demeanour and who will add value to this child's day in an uplifting way.

Focus on supporting learning and development in Maths and literacy but initially the focus needs to be integrating the child into the classroom environment as much as possible. Helping her first to thrive socially and then academically.

The successful candidates must hold a Level 3 NVQ/CACHE minimum and must have current experience working in a school environment over the past two years.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience of working with a range of needs on the Autistic Spectrum
  • Attended Autism training
  • Eligible to work in the UK and hold a NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
  • Extensive curriculum knowledge
  • Be able to provide a safe and stimulating environment for the children you support
  • Promote positive behaviour
  • Sensitive towards children's individual learning abilities and able to boost self esteem
  • Work well with colleagues and support the classroom Teacher
  • Committed to the learning and development of pupils within their care
  • Good communicative skills
  • The confidence and feel comfortable liaising with the senior leadership team, parents & senco to ensure you are representing the child you are supporting in the best possible light
  • Develop and promote positive relationships
  • Prepare and maintain the learning environment
