Literacy Intervention Teacher job vacancy in Somerset, Permanent position

Inclusion in schools can be a challenge. Students are faced with massively varied barriers to participating in learning, which end up affecting their life chances. When this barrier is a student's behaviour, they can often be excluded from school because of the disruption that they cause for other students, which can be the start of a vicious cycle of exclusion.

An alternative provision in Somerset caters specifically for students between 7-18 who have been excluded from mainstream schools because of barriers that have been put up after some kind of trauma. This trauma can be inflicted by students themselves, their families, or their peers, and can result in behaviour which can make access to learning incredibly difficult. Inclusion is at the core of this school's ethos, and a student has never been permanently excluded.

They are looking for a literacy/reading teacher to support students whose learning has been disrupted in this area due to exclusion. The teacher they are looking for will be able to form positive relationships and inspire students who can be challenging to authority. Most of the teaching is done on a 1:1 basis, so that students' individual needs can be catered for, unlike in a mainstream school where they can be lost in the noise of 30 others.

If you have experience in working with students whose behaviour is often a barrier to their participation in learning, and you're interested in this job, send in your CV or call Andy at the Bristol office.
