What is a vocational teacher?

A vocational teacher or technical education instructors usually teach in further education (FE), higher education, technical schools, community colleges, polytechnics education establishments but teachers may also work in secondary schools and may even teach online. They may also coordinate with on-site apprenticeships.

How do you get into vocational teaching?

You do not necessarily need to possess a prescribe teaching qualification to teach a professional course; you may find a that many teaching establishments will include it as essential or desirable in their job adverts so a teaching qualification will probably improve your chances of getting a vocational teaching role.

What is vocational teaching?

Vocational teachers offer a natural alternative route into the workplace for students who do not want to study 'traditional' subjects and have a clear understanding of what they want to do career-wise. Vocational subjects also compliment and enhance pupils schooling, giving them a well-rounded education.

Michael Wilshaw, the previous Chief Inspector of Schools In England and head of Ofsted, stated that it is critical that the UK commits to developing vocational education so we can produce a robust and skilled workforce that will strengthen the prospects for growth in the UK's economy and productivity.
