Becoming a science teacher requires a number of qualifications and certifications, depending on what level of the subject you wish to teach. To enter teacher training in England, these are the basic requirements you will need to meet academically:

  • A degree of 2:2 or higher. If you are applying for a secondary school position this should be in a subject relevant to that whic you want to teach.

  • For secondary school, a GCSE grade C/4 of an equivalent in English and maths. For primary school you will need an equivalent grade in a science subject as well.

  • A pass on the professional skills test for numeracy and literacy which you will take during the application process.

  • Having declared any previous convictions, and having a pass on a Disclosure and Barring Service check.
