SEN Teaching assistant job vacancy in Birmingham, Contract position

Teaching Assistant Birmingham A special school in Birmingham are actively looking for a Teaching Assistant to work with them on an ongoing basis to support a small number of pupils with SEND. This role will play a pivotal part in ensuring the children are kept on task, learning to their full capability and have a point of contact for any issues or concerns. The key responsibilities for the role are:

  • Establish constructive relationships with parents and carers - exchanging information, facilitating support for their childs attendance, behaviour and learning
  • Reward good behaviour and challenge or take action on poor behaviour
  • Support teaching and other support staff in maintaining discipline & following up incidents
  • Develop a clear understanding of the specific needs of identified EAL or SEN pupils
  • Provide support to SEN pupils learning in the most effective way both
  • Encourage pupils to interact and work co-operatively, ensuring they remain engaged in activates
  • To work closely with the teacher to assist in the planning, development and delivery of all areas of the curriculum for pupils
  • In the short term unplanned absence of the teacher, to cover all pre prepared activities to provide continuity for pupils
  • To help adapt and plan the development of resources necessary to lead learning activities, taking into account pupils interests, language and culture background
  • Assist the school in communicating with parent and carers using appropriate approach
  • The post holder should bring the following skills and attributes to the role:
  • Able to communicate effectively with persons at all levels
  • Has proven experience in a similar role, particularly experienced with Autism and is aware of challenges
  • Is dedicated in seeing results and progress within pupils
  • Has a passion for helping children
  • Can identify different learning techniques and adapt to these when necessary
  • Is reliable and honest
  • Can demonstrate a professional work ethic
  • Relevant Qualification or studying towards would be an advantage
  • Team Teach is not essential but would be desirable
