Assistant Teacher/Learning Mentor job vacancy in South Gloucestershire, Permanent position

ITN Mark Education is looking for an Assistant Teacher on behalf of an SEN school in South Gloucestershire. Due to the growth of the school and an increase in student numbers the school would like someone to start ASAP, this role will be permanent and full time Monday to Friday.

Initially this position will involve working as a learning mentor 1-1 with new students to help their transition into the school, with the aim of helping them to fully integrate into the classroom. You will then work with the class teachers to deliver lessons/programmes in line with the school's curriculum.

The school itself cater to children with challenging behaviour and attachment disorders, providing an alternative approach to education for its students. This is an innovative school with staff willing to do whatever it takes to change students' lives.

The school have specified that for this post a degree and/or related qualification in education are essential criteria.

Duties include:
- Working closely with the class teacher to deliver lessons effectively
- Monitoring attendance and punctuality of students
- Taking on the learning mentor role for students with BESD
- Supervision of learning support assistants
- Implementing an effective and personalised behaviour management system
- Supporting students in preparing for and taking part in social interactions, including school trips and special events
- Helping students to build day-to-day relationships with peers and teachers
- Promoting a calm atmosphere around students within all aspects of the school day

Desirable criteria:

- At least 2 years experience in a SEN environment, particularly working with challenging behaviour (Steiner experience is advantageous)
- Have confidence to tackle difficult situations and approach them with a calm and mature way
- A genuine passion and belief in the potential of every student.
- Hold full driving Licence
- Training in PECS, Makaton or similar would be extremely beneficial for this role.
- Team Teach training would be an advantage but training will be provided by the school for successful candidates.
