UK locations: Where can I work in the UK?

With offices in 16 locations across the UK, ITN Mark Education is well placed to find you work opportunities nationwide. Some regions have more opportunities for OTTs than others; your consultant will be able to discuss the best locations for work with you. In general, the more flexible you are able to be about location, the more work options we will be able to provide. The hub of London is a popular destination for many OTTs, but with options as diverse as the ‘second city’ Birmingham, the smaller rural centres of the Home Counties or even a vibrant costal town like Southampton - the choice is wide open!

Types of work: What sort of work can I do?

Depending on the visa you are eligible for, you can choose between day-to-day, long-term and permanent jobs. Each has its own benefits:

Supply Work (Casual Relief/Substitution):

  • Flexible working schedule
  • Variety of experience
  • Weekly pay
  • Guaranteed Supply scheme (where applicable - terms & conditions)

Long-term Work:

  • Assignments usually last a school term or longer
  • Weekly pay and increased pay
  • Continuity of employment
  • Integration into the school team
  • Long-term lesson planning and preparation

Permanent work:

  • Permanent contracts
  • Employed and paid by the school directly
  • Long-term lesson planning and preparation
  • Extended benefits

UK teacher pay: What is the rate of pay for a teacher in the UK?

For permanent jobs, salaries are paid according to main pay scales, updated each September by the Government. The rate depends on your level of experience and where you teach in the UK – click here for the latest pay scales.

A daily rate is offered for supply and long-term positions - ITN Mark’s rates of pay are highly competitive.

Types of schools: What kind of schools will I teach in?

The opportunities for OTTs within UK schools are hugely varied. ITN Mark has an excellent reputation for providing education staffing solutions, and therefore works with a wide ranges of State (Government funded) Schools, Academies, Grammar, Special and Independent (fee paying) schools.

When to travel: When is the best time for me to relocate the UK?

There are opportunities to start work in the UK right across the school year, but good times to arrive for work are the new academic year (September) and for the second term (January) when we have large numbers of work opportunities.

Fees: Is there a fee for ITN Mark’s service?

No; the service that we provide is completely free for candidates.

UK jobs: Where can I find out about UK teaching jobs?

ITN Mark works with a wide range of schools to provide qualified teachers and teaching support staff, and will advise you on all opportunities available. UK jobs: How can I secure a position?

Supply (Day-to-day) jobs will of course come through after you arrive in the UK; and many OTTs will secure long term jobs via a supply assignment. ITN Mark can also arrange phone, and some even face to face interviews for permanent and long-term jobs before you travel to the UK.

A polished and comprehensive CV, thorough preparation for interview, and research about the prospective school will all help your chances of interview success.

Education Structure: What is the structure of education in the UK?

Education in England and Wales is divided into: primary, secondary and further education. Compulsory education lasts for 11 years and statutory schooling ages are between 5 to 16 years.

UK academic calendar: What does the academic year look like?

The academic year begins in September, and has three terms:

Autumn Term: September to December

Spring Term: January to March/April

Summer Term: April to July

Schools break for two weeks at Christmas and Easter, six weeks over Summer and one week over each half term period.
